Getting Ready for the Spiker Family Reunion

Preparing for the 2010 Reunion.

Written by: Bobbi Spiker-Conley

It’s almost time…the Spiker Family Reunion will be held on Sunday, May 30, 2010.

Mark Spiker tells us, “John will prepare the chicken. We will have an auction for the South Fork Cemetery and a drawing. The auction generally is items on interest to the family or handmade items. The drawing includes various items from local businesses/personal business of West Virginia interest. Anyone may bring an item to donate for the auction or free drawing.”

For a look at last year’s events, read past editions of the Spiker Gazette by clicking these links: April 2009, May 2009, June 2009.

Next month we hope to post a timeline of scheduled events. If you have any comments or suggestions, be sure to let Mike or Mark know.

In the meantime, we are all making plans for our personal contributions this year: selecting recipes for the covered-dish dinner, crafting items for the auction or gathering old photos to add to the collection. Sarah Smith told me she found a few boxes of old letters, postcards and related memorabilia that she has added to the stock. She shared one such item for this edition of the Gazette. (See the announcement section below.)

Hope to see you all there!

  • Submitted by Sarah Smith – I found an entire box of letters and postcards from the Spiker family. This is a poem written by Alice Spiker when she was a freshman in high school (click here to read.) I left another box at the out at the farm. Everyone can look through them at the reunion.
